The club was formed in Westport on the 14th of October 2002. The meeting was chaired by David Brooks. The club held an open show on the 25th and 26th of April 2003. The show manager was Loyd Mawson from Hector. Judges were Sunny Cook and Brian Ward from the Marlborough Club. The club held two affiliation shows in Westport and then moved to Greymouth to be more central to Hokitika and Westport.

Greymouth also had a venue which could stage very large shows. All annual shows are held at the ASB Civic Centre on Puketahi Street.

Hamish Coates 2012 West Coast Show

Hamish Coates, who joined our club in 2011, has had an excellent start to the poultry world by being able to obtain eggs from different poultry breeders in and around Ashburton. Hamish has at present several breeds but will cut back numbers and persevere with the Light Sussex and Orpingtons HB.

One part of the West Coast (S.I.) Poultry and Pigeon Club’s 2012 show, held in the ASB Centre, Greymouth. The show attracted about 500 entries.

Three New Hampshires Chicken coop
Clare and Cliff Strange purchased New Hampshires and knowing very little about poultry set about making their new fowl house which is a credit to them.
